No-Waste Pattern Apron

No-Waste Apron
Apron is sewn from one rectangular piece of fabric. The selvedge runs along the top of the apron and the tops of the pockets which are cut out from the fabric on either side of this top selvedge where the arms go. The result is pockets with non-bulky top edges which do not need to be finished. The process of creating large darts on the apron to make it flare out before cutting out the pockets results in unusual shapes. These provide the opportunity for multiple pockets, 2 on each side.

The entire apron is sewn by hand: running stitch for the darts and long sides of the pockets, backstitched for reinforcement at the corners of the pockets, felled hems on the bottom and sides, whip-stitched bias tape edging.
